Principal Attorney

Paul Spiegel

Paul Spiegel is a thought leader, an international speaker and a longtime activist in the fields of longevity and transhumanism.  He is a board member of the Life Extension Advocacy Foundation  the American Longevity Alliance and Humanity Plus, and is a former board member of the International Longevity Alliance.  He is a legal advisor to the U.S. Transhumanist Party the Lifeboat Foundation and the Brain Preservation Foundation, he is a member of Health Extension and carboncopies.org and he provides legal counsel for many longevity-related and transhumanist enterprises.

As an attorney, Paul specializes in longevity biomedicine and has counseled and consulted for the longevity community since 2006.  His firm, Eclectic Law, provides general counsel services to startups and established companies in biotechnology, longevity medicine and other fields.  He is founder of Libertas Biomedical, LLC, which seeks friendly venues for companies to promote longevity research and treatment with greater freedom than is allowed in the United States or the European Union, and consults with businesses to maximize their international opportunities.  A modest diplomat, Paul is Honorary Consul for the Republic of San Marino, serving California, Arizona, Utah and Nevada.  Technically, therefore, he is is the Honorary Consul for the Republic of San Marino at Burning Man.

Paul graduated from the University of California, Berkeley in 1979 and from Berkeley Law School in 1983.  He attended Harvard Law School, the University of Paris, Sorbonne, International Christian University in Tokyo.  He speaks five languages, including English, French, Spanish and Italian. Trained in international business law, he worked on Wall Street, on Montgomery Street and in Tokyo before entering private practice in San Francisco.  Long an advocate of progressive ideas and legal causes, he has focused on longevity, transhumanism, regenerative medicine and the biology of aging.

An 3rd-year student at Hastings College of the Law, Katie joined Eclectic Law as a legal assistant in January, 2020.  She has distinguished herself by her fine mind and excellent organizational skills, and by her ability to work remotely in adverse conditions caused by the COVID pandemic.
